Structural Canopy Support Systems

A tree with a structural concern may need more than pruning. We review the tree, the affected limbs and what is beneath them before discussing whether a support system is a suitable option. Some trees will not be appropriate candidates for support.

What we review

The assessment considers visible defects, the condition of attachment areas and the tree’s overall situation. The proposed system, installation approach and any related pruning must be specified for that tree. Support should not be sold as a universal alternative to removal.

How we define the work

If a system is recommended, the scope should identify what it is intended to address, its limitations and the inspection needs after installation. Trees grow and conditions change, so an installed support requires future review rather than being forgotten.

Before and after your visit

Tell us about earlier storm damage or existing cables and supports. Keep clear of visibly split or hanging limbs. A support system can address selected concerns but cannot eliminate all risk of failure; urgent or advanced defects may require a different plan.
